Giving Some Time

Session leader volunteer

The Collective Sharehouse is a volunteer led community food support (operating as a foodbank) currently supporting around 150 households who live in the Micklegate Ward area of York.

When are volunteers needed:

We are looking for a volunteer (age 18 or older) to help with the coordination of a small team of friendly and experienced volunteers during a weekly session open to the public, to ensure the safe running of the session.

We are ideally looking for a fairly regular weekly commitment to one of these sessions, although

can happily work around holidays etc.

In this voluntary role, tasks may include:

- Greeting clients as they enter the Sharehouse

- Helping clients and volunteers with any issues that arise during the session, including signposting to others services

- Some unlocking/locking up responsibilities

- Basic administrative tasks at the end of a session

- Setting up and closing down the session

- Sorting donations, restocking shelves and helping clients locate specific items

- Some lifting and handling

Skills and behaviours needed for the role:

We are looking for a confident communicator with good people skills, who is comfortable working in a busy, and occasionally challenging, community environment.

Experience working in the community and an understanding of safeguarding is desirable but not essential.

We are looking for volunteers who share our values:

∙ FAIR: Give as you can…take as you need

∙ CARE: This is a place of welcome, warmth, respect, and friendliness

∙ SHARE: We are all equal in this space

∙ AWARE: People’s challenges are not always obvious

We would especially like to hear from people with lived experience.

What will the volunteer gain/benefit from:

• A welcoming and enjoyable experience working together with a sociable team of volunteers to make a real difference in our local community.

• Receive induction and training alongside an experienced session leader

• Invitations to occasional socials and yearly AGM

How to get involved:

Please drop us an email at hello@thecollectivesharehouse.co.uk with a brief outline of why you’d like to volunteer with us and details of any relevant previous experience. We’d love to hear from you as soon as possible, preferably by the end of June.
